41 competitors from 17 states and two foreign countries have gathered in the small town of Medina some 30 miles out of Cleveland, Ohio for the week long US Checkers Championship.

The tournament which is organized by the American Checkers Federation will be played in the so called three-move style where the initial moves in each match are decided by random in order to even the playing field.

Except for the bragging rights as US Checkers champion the players are also competing for a prize pool of $6,000.
